Seating Systems

There are a vast number of cushions available to meet the needs of individual consumers, each available in a number of sizes and covers to address incontinence, breathability or positioning requirements. Your MEDIchair store has the complete line of products not included here and offers free trials to help find the cushion that suits you best.

Powered seating systems are designed to be installed on high-end power chairs, and provide a superior level of positioning to help address pressure relief, spasticity, feeding, edema, etc. The systems can be controlled by the regular joystick, or by any number of the alternate control systems available. Common applications include power tilt in space, recline, elevating leg rests and elevating seats. These are very complex and specific applications, so a consultation with a professional is required.
The products work in conjunction with cushions, backs and seating bases to provide a better solution for some clients.

Common accessories include headrests/neckrests, lateral supports, pommels (abductors), bolsters and wedges (adductors), arm troughs, trays, positioning belts, and special footrests. These items form only one component of comprehensive seating solution, and it is essential that all components be fitted by a home medical equipment specialist from your local MEDIchair store.

  • Backs, like cushions, are available in a variety of models ranging from basic foam products that provide moderate positioning  and pressure relief, to high-end foam and gel or air combination products with aggressive positioning characteristics
  • Many models are designed with versatile mounting systems  that allow adjustments of height, depth and back angle to accommodate the individual user
  • Available in a range of sizes to fit your mobility system
  • Can be combined with any number of accessories to further customize the positioning capabilities
  • To ensure a proper fit, please see your local MEDIchair home medical equipment specialist to arrange a no-obligation trial.

Foam Cushions
• Range from very basic and inexpensive applications to higher end products that can provide moderate to aggressive positioning
• Foam can be cut and shaped to meet the user’s needs
• Lightweight

Gel Cushions
• Offer a higher level of pressure relief than most foam cushions, but are often heavier and more expensive
• Customize positioning through foam wedges and gel sections (on some products)
• Like air floatation cushions, gel cushions are often the choice for full-time users with limited sensation

Air Floatation
• Offer the highest level of pressure relief and are very lightweight
• Can offer customization by varying air pressure and distribution, but are not as effective for positioning as foam or gel products.
• Require periodic maintenance and proper set-up is essential to peak performance
